Melissa found out she was pregnant back in May of 2013. One of the assignments I was given for the baby's arrival was to have a complete family tree. Melissa was thinking more along the lines of great-grandparents, but I went bananas and have several lines back to Europe.
I am applying for membership in The Sons of the American Revolution through my ancestor, William McGaughey, Jr. Once that is processed I will begin trying to prove lineage from other Patriot Ancestors (I have a long list of potential candidates).
Besides my recent obsession with Genealogy, other hobbies include fixing things, juggling, eating, failing to teach the dog tricks, and collecting Giant Cups. I'm not entirely sure how I got started on that last one, but I digress. I love Giant Cups.
I work for Southern Office Supply out of Guymon, Oklahoma. I repair copiers. I started out my career doing tech support for Dell. I worked at the Geek Squad for a while, before landing a job at Computer Repair Pro, which unfortunately, is no longer in business. It was run by Mijo Marsic, who is a generally hilarious Bosnian. In March of 2010 he sent me to Detroit for a training course on Walmart's Photolab Equipment. The rest is history. I had to travel to several different towns (as far as 3 hours away from Amarillo) to fix their equipment. Guymon, Oklahoma's Walmart had a tendency to break their machines more than any other store I maintained, so my roommate told me I should find a girlfriend in the area. It wasn't long before I met Melissa. We really hit it off and somehow she convinced me to move out to the middle of nowhere. So here I am, fixing copiers in the middle of nowhere.
I like to think I have a pretty good relationship with my family. My wife teaches at a rural school out here, so my parents thought it would be a great idea to send JT up here for high school. I guess that says something about their trust in me and my wife. JT is my younger brother. He is the baby of the family, and is 15 right now. His first word was David because my parents yelled at me a lot.
My younger sister, Mekala, is 26 right now. She lives at home with my folks and has dreams of becoming an artist of some sort. My older sister, Megan, lives in Los Angeles, California, and has a job doing graphic design, I think. She is 33. She's kind of hard to keep up with. My niece, Misha, lives with her.
My mother, Rebecca Lynn McGaughy(Barrett), does some sort of administrative work for the corporation that owns Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo. She travels a lot, and I'm not really sure what she does. She was in Risk Management for a long time, so I assume she is still doing something related. My dad, Timothy Mike McGaughy, teaches guitar lessons and drags mom to every bluegrass festival under the sun.
