Books

These books were a great resource for me and, admittedly, some were fairly hard to come by. I hope that by offering them here for free and in a digital format, they will be more accessible to people in the future.

To view the following books, click on the image of their cover. They are also available for download in pdf format.

A Few Barrett Kin
by Emma Barrett Reeves

An excellent source for descendants of Steven Nicholas "Clippy" Barrett.
Digitized by myself from my grandfather's book.

Descendants of William and Margaret McGaughy/ey
(Settled in York County, PA. 1740)
by Polly Rachel McGaughey Sutton

An excellent source for descendants of William McGaughey. Digitized by myself from a copy of the book I obtained from ebay. There is a 1991 Supplement to this book which I will digitize once I build a better book scanner. Expect a better copy of this book as well.

Campbell Chronicles and Family Sketches
by Ruth Hairston Early

This book is a good resource for anyone researching Campbell County, Virginia. It has several family sketches towards the back of the book. Some of my ancestors are mentioned under the Waldens. This book is available for viewing from Hathitrust, an online library. However, I have made a pdf of the book available to download here, in the event anyone wanted to keep it for their records.

A Twentieth Century History and Biographical Record of North and West Texas
Volume 2
by Captain Buckley Burton Paddock

This book is an excellent resource. Paddock was a business and civic leader and a four-term mayor of Fort Worth. He produced several multi-volume regional Texas histories. Topics include the Peters Colony, histories of Fort Worth and El Paso, with numerous biographies of the prominent ranchers, businessmen, and pioneers of the region. Of interest to me were pages 439-441 of Volume 2, which included a biography of my great great grandfather, Henry Clay McGaughy. If you would like to obtain a copy for your records, both volumes are available from the Internet Archives. Volume 1 is available here and Volume 2 is available here.

As I research deeper into my family history, I will add more books that I come across.
